technology
Supermetalix’ patented formulations, novel tungsten tetraboride compositions, address critical needs in two primary forms: Composite bulk solids and superhard particles for applications in super-abrasive polishing surface finishing.
Tetride™ composite formulations are cobalt free, and because they are electrically conductive, they may be formed/shaped into any necessary geometry for virtually any application. The novel formulations developed by SuperMetalix bridge the gap between WC and c-BN, with material properties targeting c-BN, with cost competitiveness trending towards WC. Nuclear shielding applications are also at the forefront of our research.
Tungsten carbide (WC) systems have been known for nearly a century. Cobalt, the predominant binder found in these systems is a known carcinogen, and a conflict mineral. Synthetic superhard materials, such as polycrystalline diamond (PCD) and cubic boron nitride (c-BN) require high-pressure, high-temperature synthesis, and are not readily cut or formed into the geometries demanded to be able to replace carbide.
